Kylie Minogue - Timebomb : Chart Performance Week 1 Single Review

Birthday girl, Kylie Minogue, kicks-off K25 era with a brand-new stand-alone single Timebomb.
This teams her with Matt Schwartz and re-unites her with former collaborators Karen Poole and Paul Harris who she worked with in 2007's X Album. While not entirely unique than her previous songs, Timebomb is unashamed vivacious dance-pop that begins with dark stanza chords before breaking to an addictive chorus hook! Kylie flirtaciously encourages her boy to dance before the night is over as they are pressed for time. "Tell me now! (woo) Do you wanna, wanna, wanna? (woo) I wanna, wanna  dance like it was the last dance of my life. We're on a timebomb, before the night's gone. Let's just do it right now, do it come on." Interestingly, the "woo's" here are utilized sparingly yet effectively as opposed to Sensitized which suffered an overdose! Kylie's signature breathy vocals are in full sensual effect once again but she sings low; too low that it sounds robotic. The only time that she shifts higher is when she shrieks "Tell me now!" then goes back to monotone.  This vocalization makes me miss the '90s Kylie when she would sing, belt and fret the higher notes in wanton abandon evident in such tracks Automatic Love and Love Is Waiting. Production-wise, the song is an accomplished stomper; what with Dirty Vegas and Dada on the helm! If the single version is this delicious, what more when the remixes hit the clubs?

Vocals: 1, Production: 2, Lyrics: 1.5, Chorus Strength: 2, Mainstream Appeal: 2 =  (8.5/10)

Clumsy Kylie

In the often-times monochromatic video, Kylie takes off from filming and takes the back alleys of London's Soho making interesting antics along the way before ending up riding with a motorbiker in a revealing LBD. Some shots of her wherein she dances super-imposed on fast-forwarded city scenes remotely reference Madonna's Ray of Light although this is more of just a coincidence than deliberate. In fairness, the video passes scrutiny with flying colours but not that breathtaking to be called a landmark achievement.
Klepto Kylie!

Timebomb was confusingly released on a Friday 25th May thus gathering just partial download sales inadequate to merit a high debut on the charts. While it is still in the Top 100 of many iTunes Charts globally, it hasn't charted in the week22 except in the UK where it entered at # 31.
